Transform your Brick & Stone with the Timeless, Old World Art of German Schmear!

Why should you turn your old brick & stone into a beautiful German Schmear masterpiece?

• It’s HEALTHY for your porous surfaces, allowing your brick/stone to breathe and expel water. This is a must in our East Texas climate to prevent water buildup and mold.

• It is maintenance-free and never has to be redone down the road (unlike lime wash and paint).

• Customizable coverage that allows the beauty and character of brick and stone to still show through while achieving the timeless old-world look that’s been “in style” for 1000’s years.

• Remodeling your old brick and stone with Timeless German Schmear adds value to your home.

Here's how we help turn your old brick & stone into Old World Art!

1. Choose a Style:

It’s important that our work matches your vision. We will go over our coverage styles with you (light, medium, or heavy) before we get started. German Schmear mortar is white and your overall look is determined by how much mortar coverage you want on your brick or stone. Customization is our specialty.

2. Cover & Prep:

The schmearing process can be messy so our crew meticulously covers the areas around our workspace to ensure the mortar only goes where it’s supposed to.

3. Coverage:

Our crews are trained to apply the correct amount of specialty mortar that fits the style of German Schmear you have chosen. With that said, every home is different and weather, types, and color of brick or stone, and location of your project are some factors that can affect the final product. The process is not an assembly line, rather it’s an artistic journey. We fill every grout line, cover cracks, and go over the face of each brick or stone to get the final result.

4. Dry Time:

Depending on the current temperature, the dry time can be as short as a few hours up to a full day or two. You will notice that the mortar goes on a beige or even grayish tone but once dry it will turn to a beautiful white.

5. Clean Up:

After we are finished, we will take extra care to clean up all of our mess, plastic, and materials and haul away any trash. We will also clean up any drops of mortar so it looks like we were never there. We even sweep, vacuum, and mop can’t beat that!

Frequently Asked Questions

11. How long does it last?
German Schmear is permanent and will last a lifetime. Since it is a mortar product, it will last as long as the mortar holding your brick together, and that's been known to last hundreds of years! Constant water or sprinklers will erode it over time. So It's best to keep the water at bay to keep it looking great for years.
22. Does it Fade?
German Schmear will not fade at all. The color is not a tint, it is a white aggregate stone that is crushed to make the color so it will never need to be re-coated or sealed either!
33. Is there any maintenance involved?
Because German Schmear is not a tinted product, you will never have to do maintenance to keep it looking new. it is a white aggregated stone that's crushed to make the color so it will never need to be re-coated or sealed either. Maintenance is as easy as washing it with a hose every once in awhile just to wash the dust off.
44. Will I need to replace broken or misplaced bricks?
Our crew is happy to secure loose bricks, but we don't replace bricks that have been lost or completely broken. It's best to have a mason come to take care of that before we arrive.
55. How long does a job take?
Each job is different, but most fireplaces can be done in a day or less and the average home is roughly 3-4 days. We will meticulosity tape off and put plastic around the job site to keep it clean and ensure everything is cleaned up before we leave. Our crew will literally touch each brick a minimum of 4 times during the process, so good things take time. Initial dry time is only a few hours, but will be 100% dry in 1-2 days.
66. Can German Schmear be removed?
Since German Schmear is a mortar, it an be removed only with muriatic acid. This means that if you have an area that needs to be lightened with more brick showing, this is possible. However, a total removal of the mortar is not possible since it is meant to be a permanent solution.
77. What if I don't like my German Schmear?
Our process should mitigate the possibility of not liking your German Schmear final appearance. We will have you review previous jobs and confirm the style you are looking for. After that, we will have you check the first portion of the job as we get going so you can confirm the style matches your taste. After that, we can go back and touch up certain area's for uniformity if necessary. Our goal is 100% customer satisfaction and so far we've never had a customer not love their home's transformation.
